CHRISTIE'S BUYER NAMES 101.27 CARAT PURCHASE 'THE SHIZUKA DIAMOND'

13 08 2010

The shield-shaped, F color, VVS1, 101.27 carat diamond sold at Christie’s Spring 2008 jewelry sale in Hong Kong in May 2008 for US$6,211,249 has been named “The Shizuka Diamond.” The diamond’s new owner named the gem, the largest colorless diamond ever sold at auction in Asia, as a gift for his wife of 16 years. At the time of its sale in May, “The Shizuka Diamond” was mounted into a tiara and considered to be the largest colorless diamond to have sold at auction anywhere in the world in nearly 20 years.
The diamond was cut from a 460 carat rough diamond to the 101.27 carats and boasted 92 brilliant facets.
